Updated links

Okay. Some people have issues with my site, so I have added extra links in the column on the right. Anyway, I will try to keep this up to date.

Krispy Kreme

Perhaps it was the scent of refined sugar that just drew us in...

After going out for some very tasty chinese food for dinner, we boldly considered ordering dessert. This is unusual for me since I'm almost always far too stuffed to even consider such a thing. When the waiter brought the menu, some of the offerings sounded worthwhile, but then I saw the right column. I'm not sure if I believe in the existence of a $7 bowl of sorbet. Theoretically, it could exist, but I haven't seen one yet. Since my dining companions shared my feelings of overpriced desserts, we thought that we would go somewhere else to pick up some dessert.

Our first stop of the sugar lust tour was Royal Farms. It was a short walk from the restaurant. We thought that we would just pick up a couple pints of ice cream. Then Alyson mentioned the dangerous idea...Krispy Kreme. I said that they have hot doughnuts every morning and night so that there was a good chance that the magical hot doughnut sign would be lit. That was all I needed to convince Alison to get back in the car and head towards that glowing neon sign.

I had never taken advantage of the large seating area at the Krispy Kreme. The four of us didn't polish off the entire dozen hot doughnuts, but we were close. Maybe next time we'll plan slightly better and not go right after a huge meal.

I'll take things that suck for $400 Alex

OK, so my old vacuum died a painful death. It had to be replaced. One thing that I learned in the process was that vacuums are much more expensive than I would like them to be.

So I went to look at Best Buy to check out some different vacuum cleaners. I checked out a couple Hoover models. Not only were they big, but they were also very heavy. The one Hoover was self propelled, which added to the weight. I think to myself, "It's only a vacuum cleaner, not a lawn mower." Who really needs a self propelled vacuum cleaner? To top off the Best Buy visit, one of the minimum wage clerks tried to get me not to take the vacuums off of the shelf. What's the point of the store if not to try out the different models. After that treatment, I was off on my way to Target.

At Target, there certainly wasn't any problem in trying out the different models. After settling for the dyson, it was time to take it home to see just how much dust, grime and nastiness were in the carpeting.

When I say "sucks", I really do mean it in a good way. Apart from one little hiccup setting everything up, the dyson has been great. I really like the whole bagless setup. Unlike some of the other bagless units I looked at, the emptying mechanism is really well designed. It is very easy to empty the dust bin without getting dirty or spreading dust all over the place. I can say this with confidence since I have emptied the bin several times already ( and am very glad that I haven't had to pay for the bags ).

Overall, I would recommend the dyson to anyone. It is not that expensive compared to other units. The design is solid. Short of spending $1000 on a new Electrolux, this vacuum is great!
